Participating in the Incubator for Executive Leaders of Color has been an extraordinary opportunity for professional and personal growth. The program’s thoughtful design and engaging sessions strengthened my leadership skills while fostering collaboration among a diverse cohort of arts professionals. I am deeply grateful for the experience and look forward to continuing my journey as a proud alum—committed to giving back to the community that has so generously invested in me.
The Incubator for Executive Leaders of Color
- Executive Leaders
- Arts Administrators
This program provides six months of free leadership development and community support to 18 executive-level arts administrators in NYC. The program supports leaders who are uniquely positioned to influence the culture and operations of their organization, informed by guest workshop facilitators from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities.
The 2026 program, for which we are currently accepting applications, will take place from April to October 2026.
By fostering the professional development of leaders of Color, we aim to encourage the equitability and diversity of the arts industry. The program is slightly modified year-to-year to implement the learnings of the previous editions.
Bookending the program are two in-person intensives where participants connect with each other and delve deeply into leadership frameworks together.
Led by expert consultants and other leaders, topics include conflict management, succession planning, and board and nonprofit management.
Participants are grouped with each other to track and support their individual leadership goals.
Participants are each paired with another Executive Leader of Color from the field who serves as their Advisor for the duration of the program.

Since 2013, NYFA Learning has supported the careers of arts administrators from over 300 arts and culture organizations in the New York City area and around the state by providing professional development that is tailored to the challenges of this vital profession.
NYFA believes that investing in cultural infrastructure improves the sustainability and success of arts organizations, and ultimately builds stronger connections between artists and administrators, which benefits the entire field. The programs particularly support administrators of color, and organizations which are BIPOC-led, community-based, or rural. Programs are application-based and offered free to participants who are selected by panels of expert colleagues in the field.
From Our Alumni
It was such a balm to be connected to leaders of color navigating a range of organizational structures, experience levels, and leadership models. I felt less alone in this journey and received deeply valuable insight, encouragement and inspiration from the folks in my cohort. The workshops held a lovely balance of practical tools and self reflection and the facilitators offered gracious insight from their experience to round out our learning.
